Choose references who know your work, ask permission, brief them about the role and share your resume. Thank them and update them on the outcome. If you have little work history, ask teachers, mentors or volunteer leaders.

Request template

"Hi [name], I am applying for [role] and would be grateful if you would act as a reference. I have attached my resume and the job description. Would you be comfortable speaking about [skills]?"

Tips

  1. Ask early.
