An interview is a conversation where the employer decides whether you can do the job and work well with them. The good news: preparation changes the result more than charm does.

Direct answer

To ace a job interview, understand the role and company, prepare four or five true stories that show your skills (situation, what you did, result), practise saying them out loud, answer questions clearly and briefly, ask your own good questions and send a short thank you afterwards. Honest, specific stories beat rehearsed speeches.

10 tips

  1. Read the job post twice and underline what they want.
  2. Research the company: what they do, who they serve, recent news.
  3. Prepare stories using situation, action, result. See common interview questions.
  4. Practise out loud, ideally with a friend or by recording yourself.
  5. Plan the logistics: route, time, tech for video calls. See phone and video interview tips.
  6. Arrive early and be polite to everyone you meet.
  7. Listen to the whole question and pause before answering.
  8. Be specific: numbers, names of tools, what changed.
  9. Ask questions about the team, what success looks like and next steps.
  10. Follow up within a day.

Answer structure

Use a simple pattern for behavioural questions:

  • Situation: one sentence of context.
  • Action: what you did.
  • Result: what changed, with a number if possible.

If you have no experience

Draw on school projects, volunteering, clubs and part-time work. See first job interview tips.

Nerves

Slow your breathing, take a sip of water, and it is fine to say "let me think for a moment". Most interviewers expect nerves.

Be honest

Do not invent experience. If you don't know, say how you would find out. Honesty is easier to defend than a made-up story.

Where Teyro fits

Frequently asked questions

How do I ace a job interview?

Know the role and company, prepare four or five true stories that show your skills, practise answering out loud, ask thoughtful questions and follow up with a short thank you.

How do I ace an interview with no experience?

Use examples from school, volunteering, projects and part-time work. Show reliability, willingness to learn and what you have done, not what you lack.

What should I say in 'tell me about yourself'?

Give about a minute: who you are now, one or two relevant things you have done and why this role interests you. Keep it about the job, not your whole life.

What should I wear to an interview?

Dress slightly smarter than the everyday dress of the workplace, and make sure it is clean and comfortable. If unsure, ask the recruiter.

Practise answers until they feel natural

Acing Job Interviews teaches you to answer common and tricky questions with clear, honest stories, from the phone screen to the final round. 50 short lessons, free to start.
