The right preparation takes a few hours and covers most of what matters. Here is a checklist.
Direct answer
To prepare for an interview, study the job post, research the company, prepare four or five true stories using situation, action and result, practise answering out loud, write down questions to ask and sort the logistics (route, time, clothes, documents). Rest the night before. Even one focused day of this beats last-minute worry.
The checklist
Know the role
- Underline what the job post asks for.
- Match each point to something you have done.
Know the company
- What they sell and to whom
- Recent news or projects
- Their values and style
Prepare your stories
Use situation, action, result. See common interview questions.
Practise
Say answers out loud. Record yourself or practise with a friend.
Prepare questions
- What does success look like in the first three months?
- What is the team like?
- What are the next steps?
Logistics
- Route and travel time, or tech check for video. See phone and video interview tips.
- Outfit ready
- CV copies and notebook
A one-day plan
| Time | Task |
|---|---|
| 1 hour | Read the post, research the company |
| 2 hours | Write and refine five stories |
| 1 hour | Practise out loud |
| 30 minutes | Write questions and check logistics |
| Evening | Rest |
If a recruiter calls first
Have your CV and the post in front of you. Be ready for "tell me about yourself", salary expectations and your availability.
The last hour
- Re-read your notes, don't cram.
- Arrive about ten minutes early.
- Breathe and smile.
