Before you build, check the problem is real.

Direct answer

Problem-solution fit means you have evidence that a specific group has a real problem and that your solution helps. Test it with customer interviews, a simple prototype or a landing page test, and look for clear signs: people describe the problem unprompted and ask for the solution.

Steps

  1. Define the customer and the problem.
  2. Interview at least ten people.
  3. Listen for strong, specific stories.
  4. Test a solution with a prototype.
  5. Look for commitment: time, data or money.

Warning signs

  • People are polite but not interested.
  • The problem is rare or mild.
  • They already have an easy fix.
